1. Professional
Theatrical Productions
at
PCCC
We present only the
best quality children's theater, both classic children's stories and
multi-cultural fare. Thus, students gain familiarity with the majority
culture as well as enhance their appreciation of cultural diversity.
Before each performance we send custom-designed study guides to the
teachers to enable them to prepare their students for the experience,
provide follow-up activities, and connect the program to the
curriculum.
2.
In-class Language Arts Enrichment
a) Poetry workshops
b) Meet-the-Author
sessions
We
offer in-class visits by poets and authors of children's books. These
visits bring a sense of excitement to reading and writing.
3.
Student Poetry Contest
Hundreds of students
participate in our annual Paterson Student Poetry Contest which we
sponsor in conjunction with the Poetry Center at PCCC. The contest
culminates in a published anthology of the winning poems, a public
reading at PCCC, and the awarding of savings bonds and certificates.
These programs are
made possible, in part, by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of
State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, and
the Garden State Arts Center Foundation.
The
Theater and Poetry Project strives to maintain a barrier-free
facility including complete access for patrons using wheelchairs,
large print materials, sign-interpreted programs, and FM listening
systems.
